A new report released today by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, “Market Shift: The Story of the Compact for Safe Cosmetics and the Growth in Demand for Safe Cosmetics”, details a seven year effort to change the level of safety within the cosmetics industry and create a new standard of best practices to avoid chemicals banned by health agencies outside the U.S., while fully disclosing product ingredients to consumers.

Spear headed by a coalition of non-profit organizations, including the Environmental Working Group, the Breast Cancer Fund and Friends of the Earth, the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics has identified a list of companies that have met the goals of the Compact for Safe Cosmetics–labeled as Champions in the effort for safer products, each company is demonstrating best practices and leadership by:


Making effective products without using ingredients prohibited for use in cosmetics in other countries.
Disclosing all their ingredients, including those that make up “fragrance,” showing that it’s not necessary to hide these ingredients from the public.
Working together with non-profit health groups to increae market demand for safe, sustzinable products and practices.
